Volunteer Fundraisers Do It Again!

At Covenant Hospice, like most not-for-profit organizations, we depend on our volunteers in every department.  When we think of a hospice volunteer, what typically comes to mind is the sweet soul at the bedside of the patient providing support and companionship.  We’ve definitely got those volunteers.  But our volunteers do much, much more.  They support every aspect of what we do here at Covenant Hospice, from patient care to administrative duties to fundraising and development.

Just last week, a shining example of how our fundraising volunteers support our agency was the 7th Annual Art of Fashion in Pensacola, FL.  Volunteers and staff began meeting months ago to plan out this event to make it more memorable than ever for the 400+ guests that would be in attendance.   The Kentucky Derby-themed event featured a gigantic silent auction, delicious seated lunch, live auction, drawing, and the kicker–a real runway fashion show featuring local boutiques and models.

The event went off without a hitch, and for that, I have to say a big “THANK YOU” to our volunteers!  With over 40 volunteers working on some aspect of the fundraiser, it’s safe to say they had a big hand in making it what it was.  From planning the event, to securing auction items, to making pick ups and drop offs, to decorating and crafting exquisite centerpieces, setting up the event space, and working the event and clean up…our volunteers really showed their commitment to Covenant Hospice and to our patients and families.

The money raised at this event and our other fundraisers goes to support unfunded Covenant Hospice programs such as our Bereavement Program for children and adults and our Chaplain Program.  Volunteers believe in the work we do here at Covenant and they want to give back in the ways that they are able to…this doesn’t translate to direct patient care for everyone.  For some folks, giving back means crafting 85 of the most beautiful crepe paper roses for our table centerpieces, or staying for hours after a committee meeting making phone calls to potential silent auction donors.  Our volunteers each have unique gifts, and I’m very proud that Covenant Hospice has so many ways of allowing volunteers to give back.

What are your gifts and talents?  Are you more of an “at the bedside volunteer” or do you have  a specific gift that can be put to use in another area?  No matter what your talent is, we can find a project to let it shine here in Covenant’s Volunteer Department!  Call a Volunteer Manager near you today to see what’s going on in your area!
