Hearts & Minds Program for Children

Alzheimer’s Family Services, along with Covenant Hospice Children & Family Support Services, will be rolling out a new service in June 2012 called the Hearts & Minds Program.

The Hearts & Minds Program is designed to get families working with their children who have been affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. Children’s Specialists and Alzheimer’s Disease Specialists have worked together to develop an  at-home toolkit for children aging from 5-18 years old.

Families enrolled in the Hearts & Minds Program receive a resource bag full of books, art supplies, and other tools to assist their child(ren) with expressing their thoughts and feelings. Each bag also includes a parent pack which contains helpful information about how to talk to your child(ren) about dementia and how parents/caregivers can cope with their own concerns.

To enroll in the Hearts & Minds Program is very easy…just contact Alzheimer’s Family Services at 850-478-7790! It is completely free to participate in the Program.

We will kick off the Hearts & Minds Program with a Children’s Activity Event in June 2012. Children, ages 8-18, are invited to participate in a guided art activity at Painting With A Twist on Bayou Blvd in Pensacola.  During the event, children will express their thoughts and feelings through art; painting the Tree of Life. Participation in the Children’s Activity Event is completely free. Please contact Alzheimer’s Family Services for more details. Registration for the event is required and space is limited.
