A Very “Sweet” Sixteen

A very special teenager just enjoyed her 16th birthday and this is her story.

When Rose was born, she was not expected to celebrate her 5th, 10th, or 16th birthday, but she is beating the odds everyday. Rose is a happy young lady cared for by her grandmother, who Rose calls “Mama”. Rose is a blessing for everyone she meets. And on her 16th birthday, all of the people who have been impacted by her life joined her to celebrate the day.

Both past and present school teachers, nurses, family, and friends came Rose’s very “sweet” 16th birthday party. Rose was all smiles and excited to see everyone coming into the house for her party. She especially loved the balloons one of her nurses brought.

The house was decked out in pink and purple with an amazing princess castle cake donated through Icing Smiles. Icing Smiles is a not-for-profit organization that donates cakes to those faced with life-threatening conditions. The bakery, Chubby Cakes, who donated the cake for Rose’s celebration is located in Mobile, AL.

Rose lit up as she began opening one gift after another…but never took her eyes of the previous gift just opened. It was clear to the party goers that Rose LOVES unwrapping presents.

It is a tremendous gift to be able to share in these celebrations with families. Rose has forever made an impact on many people’s lives…and will continue to make an impact on her community in days to come.

Happy “Sweet” 16 Rose!!

This was an amazing day for an amazing teenager! In the line of work we do (hospice and pallaitive care), we learn to cherish these moments…making every moment count…and Rose did just that on her 16th birthday!
